Traveling Fellowship Award
Prize: $1,500

Eligibility: Important! Only residents and urologists in practice for less than five years post-residency within the geographic area of the North Central Section, AUA, are eligible to win the Traveling Fellowship Award. To be considered for this award, please check the appropriate place on the Application Form.

Subject Matter: The essay may consist of any topic of urological interest.

Manuscripts: If accepted for consideration, the paper must be submitted in sextuple. The paper should bear the title of the subject and the name(s) of the author(s). The editorial form should be that required by the Journal of Urology. All illustrations must be labeled on back with title of paper.

Criteria: The award is given to eligible physicians who have designed and carried out the majority of the work in a suitable clinical or basic research project. Only the principal author of the manuscript will be considered, and recipients of previous years are not eligible.

Presentation: Eligible manuscripts will be presented by the principal author at the North Central Section Meeting in Hollywood, Florida.

Conditions: The money from the award is intended to support a clinical tour by the recipient to an academic institution of his/her choice during the year following receipt of the award. The Section requires the recipient to give a report of this travel upon completion.

Judges: The papers are judged by the Editorial & Awards Committee, North Central Section, AUA.

Registration: Program participants must register for the meeting to present papers.

Deadline: To be considered for the meeting, associated abstracts must be received by March 15, 2013.

Thirlby Award
Eligibility: The award is given only to member urologists in the geographic area of the North Central Section of the American Urological Association who are primarily engaged in private practice. They may hold teaching affiliations, but the material for presentation must come exclusively from their private practice. To be considered for this award, please check the appropriate place on the Application Form.

Prize: The Thirlby Award consists of a commemorative plaque awarded to the member in private practice who, in the opinion of the Awards Committee, contributed the best scientific project at the Annual Meeting.

Subject Matter: Abstracts, scientific exhibits, or movies will be available for consideration of this award.

Program: All papers to be considered for the Thirlby Award will be presented on the program at the annual meeting. The Award will be announced at the Annual Banquet.

Conditions: This award shall be made every year, regardless of the number of presentations.

Judges: The papers are judged by the Editorial & Awards Committee, North Central Section, AUA.

Registration: Program participants must register for the meeting to present papers.

The John D. Silbar Award - Attention Program Directors
Prize: $1,000

Eligibility: This award will be given to an outstanding urology resident within the geographic boundary of the North Central Section.

Criteria: The awardee must reflect outstanding qualities in clinical ability, high ethical and moral standards, compassion for patients, and outstanding bedside manner.

Nominations: Nominations are requested from all Urology Program Directors in the Section. Letters of nomination and curriculum vitaes of all nominees are to be sent to the Secretary of the Section at the address below.

Judging: The Editorial and Awards Committee will select the top two or three candidates and notify the Section Secretary. The Secretary will forward the curriculum vitaes of the top choices to Dr. John Silbar, who will make the final decision.

Entry Deadline for the Silbar Award is March 15, 2013.

Bizarre and Interesting Case Award
Prize: $100

Eligibility: All abstracts that are accepted in the Bizarre and Interesting Case Award Category will be eligible for this award. Each presentation will be three minutes long and will be judged by the Editorial and Awards Committee.

Criteria: The award will be given to the person who presents the most interesting or bizarre case or developed a gadget or innovative surgical technique.

Podium/Poster Presentation Awards
Prize: Generous Awards

Eligibility: All abstracts that are accepted as a Podium/Poster Presentation will be eligible for the Podium/Poster Awards. Each podium/poster will be judged and the final prize will be awarded.
